This term we are looking at an introduction to Cubism, 1907-1914, exploring how Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Cubism presented objects from multiple viewpoints at once, using fragmented forms and geometric shapes to challenge how people saw the modern world.

Moving on we will explore German Expressionism, 1905-1918, looking at works by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Emil Nolde, Gabriele Münter and Paula Modersohn-Becker. German Expressionism used bold colours, distorted forms and dramatic compositions to express inner feeling, anxiety and responses to a rapidly changing society.

Finally, we will introduce Henri Matisse (1869-1954). Matisse is associated with Fauvism and is celebrated for using vivid colour, simplified shapes and decorative pattern to create works full of energy, harmony and visual pleasure.
