History of Art Classes - Summer Term

13.30 - 15.30

Thursday 16th April 2026
Thursday 7th May 2026
Thursday 18th June 2026
Thursday 16th July 2026

This term we will explore the paintings of W M Turner,  who is often seen as a forerunner of the Impressionists.

Following then the work of Edouard Manet - whose unconventional subject matter drawn from modern life, and his concern for the artist's freedom in handling paint, made him the precursor of Impressionism.

Moving on to explore female Impressionists - Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt, pioneering women whose intimate, luminous scenes played vital roles in the development of Impressionism.

Finally looking at Paul Cezanne - a Post-Impressionist painter whose quest to rebuild the world through colour and form, was extremely influential in the development of avant-garde art in the early 20th century.
