Pam McGregor

Tutor - Painting & Drawing

I have taught art to adults for over 25 years, but I was a graphic designer before that.
My love of art started very early on when I was little. I copied my dad’s drawings and paintings, and then I just drew everything and anything. At school, I was so lucky to have a great art teacher who encouraged me to try different mediums, which became the foundation of my art skills.

I earned a degree in Graphic Design and worked as their graphic designer for a local council in Merseyside. I worked there for over five years, leaving to have my family. When I returned to work, things had changed dramatically. Everything was done using computers. I didn’t want to do this, so, through chance, I had the opportunity to informally teach a group a craft, which unexpectedly, I found I enjoyed.

This made me look for a qualification to teach adults, which I did. While doing it, I found some teaching experience at a college, teaching students with learning difficulties and disabilities. It was such a great experience that it led me to do more work at another college, which included teaching people with mental health issues and brain injury. I was also allowed to gain my PGCE during my time there.

Since then, I have taught art and recreational classes at Avoncroft Art Society.
